CEDC announces Rolling Mill property transfers

The Cumberland Economic Development Corporation is pleased to announce the transfer of 48 parcels of real estate located in the Maryland Avenue project site to Cumberland Gateway Real Estate, LLC for future commercial development. The closing of the properties took place on December 20th, 2018 and marks the beginning of the first phase of development in this project.
Cumberland Gateway Real Estate, LLC, led by Ed Scott of Kline Scott Visco Commercial Real Estate Inc. of Frederick, MD and Richard Alter, President and CEO of Manekin Development combine to have nearly 70 years of experience in commercial development throughout the region and bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our community. “Our group feels as though Cumberland shows great potential for growth and is primed for commercial development.” says Ed Scott. “We are really looking forward to getting this project underway and working with all of the folks that the CEDC has collaborated with to help move this project forward.”
“We feel as though this team of developers truly understands our community’s needs and what will help grow our market in a smart, sustainable way.” explains CEDC Director Paul J. Kelly Jr. “We have already begun to see this project spark other private investment throughout the corridor and expect that to continue as the development progresses.”
The first phase of development includes typical pre-development planning such as storm water management, traffic circulation, utilities and other infrastructure. Meetings have already been scheduled with officials from the City, County and State to help the developers expedite the planning process. “It’s important that everyone involved is on the same page as this project unfolds.” Says Matt Miller, Economic Development Specialist of the CEDC. “We want to make sure that the right people at all levels of government are at the table early on in the planning process to ensure the development happens as smoothly as possible”
"We are all excited to start the initial planning.” Explains Robert Smith, Cumberland City Engineer. “My staff and I will provide the development team with any necessary engineering, planning and code compliance support or guidance to ensure this project is successful.”
