Chamber of Commerce Urging Hogan to Reopen Indoor Restaurants

June 10th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

You can count Allegany County Chamber of Commerce executive director Stu Czapski among those urging Maryland Governor Larry Hogan to allow for indoor dining in restaurants. Because of the pandemic- Comptroller Peter Franchot said he believes if the hospitality industry doesn’t reopen soon- half of those businesses may be forced to shut their doors permanently. The pleas to reopen come as Maryland moved into phase 2 of Hogan's roadmap to recovery, in which restaurants can only operate with outdoor dining, carryout and delivery services. Czapski tells WCBC News that the state’s dilberate pace toward reopening and some apparent inconsistencies with the guidelines are a point of frustration for many in the bar and restaurant business…

While the Manhattan Social on Baltimore Street appears to be a victim of the pandemic as there are no plans to reopen, Czapski says that fortunately most other restaurant owners he has talked with,  are at least getting by at this point…

Now that carry-out is opening up everywhere we have been trying to support our favorites.
We have an insulated pizza bag to pick up our meals and they arrive at home just just as hot as if we were sitting there.
We try to show support as a favor to them. In the past we ate out as a favor to us (no cooking).
