Commissioners to Hear WMSR Budget Request Today

Over the course of the next two weeks the Allegany County Commissioners will hear budget presentations from a number of agencies as work on the 2022 FY fiscal picture begins in earnest. One of the more interesting could come this afternoon as the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad is scheduled to appear before the county officials with their budget request. A lack of confidence in railroad management has been evident for sometime as the county commissioners had a performance audit conducted in 2019- and just two months ago the Commissioners demanded a financial audit of the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad to examine the books of the tourist attraction. Commissioner David Caporale, who also serves as a member of the railroad board of directors, told WCBC News recently that the county is simply looking for fiscal stability from the railroad- something that hasn’t been demonstrated in recent years…
