The Allegany County Board of Commissioners Thursday approved approximately $77,000 in funding to to help taxpayers who reside on roads not maintained by county road crews. According to officials, the county has 250 miles of roads that receive no road maintenance from the county. Those roads are classified as other public roads or OP roads. Earlier this year, Commissioner Creade Brodie Jr. and Jake Shade, commission president, said the situation is frustrating for the residents, who pay full property taxes, and the county. The county agreed to begin a program to help homeowners on OP roads. Deputy Director of Public Works Adam Patterson said there was strong interest expressed in the program- and staff spent the past month finalizing the list of roads targeted for upgrades.

How about funding for county taxpayers that receive “minimal if any” road maintaining? Namely, living on a dead-end road that “might” receive a small swiping-over during a snow/ice storm. And I emphasize the word “might”!
