COVID Cases Increase Locally

As the nation sees an uptick in positive test results for COVID-19, UPMC officials Wednesday stressed that the health system is seeing its lowest numbers of severely ill patients since early spring. Dr. Donald Yealy, UPMC’s senior medical director and chair of emergency medicine, said that the focus needs to change regarding the severity of the illness noting that the vast majority testing positive have very mild or no symptoms. Yealy shared that UPMC system, which includes UPMC Western Maryland in Cumberland, has its lowest numbers of COVID-19 patients systemwide since early April, and 14 of those are on ventilators, a nearly four-fold decrease since the peak in mid-April…

    I’m confused. Are cases increasing, or decreasing? The title of the piece is contradicting the content of it.
