Crime Rate: Callers Point to Repeat Offenders

March 6th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

Several callers to WCBC in recent weeks have suggested that a major percentage of the rising crime issue in Allegany County could be addressed by keeping a few repeat offenders, or habitual criminals behind bars. One caller went so far as to say if just a handful of the most active offenders. Allegany County States Attorney Michael Twigg didn’t disagree.

Mr. Twigg said that there really isnt much they can do for people driving with out a license, uninsured, and unregistared vehiccle. The caller said that there were over 30 charges of this in less then a year from the same person. What happens when there is an accident involving this person? who pays for the property damage,or any injuries? Mr. Twigg said they could only put them in jail for a year…SO DO IT! maybe they wont do it again, or maybe you will save someones life. If they were caught 30 times, how many times were they driving and nort caught?Still driving the day after court.Mr. Twigg never said way the drug offenders weren’t put in jail. The caller was right.
