On Friday January the Cumberland Police served a Criminal Summons on Rahman Wilikins, age 27 of Cumberland. The summons stemmed from an investigation into the violation of Maryland Wiretapping Laws. At the conclusion of the investigation, charges were applied for on Wilkins in District Court. Subsequently, a Summons was issued for Wilkins charging him with discloser/ wiretapping. Wilkins was served with the Summons and released pending trial in District Court.
Earlier Police served a Criminal Summons on Aaron Buzzerd, age 21 of Cumberland. The Summons stemmed from citizen applying for charges on Buzzerd in District Court. Subsequently, a Summons was issued charging Buzzerd with theft $100 to $1500 and theft under $100. Buzzered was served with the Summons and released pending trial in District Court.

It’s when you attempt to tap into a sideline that has information that is private information which you should Not be doing. With today’s technology it now could mean so many ways of doing it, from a computer or other device to putting a glass up to your ear and placing it against the wall of your neighbor to obtain information that was private and privileged. That’s a federal offence. Don’t Do It!!! You really don’t want to know!ยก!

It’s more complicated than that.
Maryland is a two party state. What that means in that in order to record any conversation which is not made in public you need to have the permission of both parties.
In other words, if you record a telephone call without disclosing you are doing so to the person you are recording, you are breaking the wiretapping law.
