Cumberland Man Sentenced to 25 Years for Robbery, Assault Charges

The Office of the State’s Attorney for Allegany County, Michael O. Twigg, State’s Attorney, announced on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, that Jason Leonard Crawford, 18 of Cumberland, was convicted and sentenced related to two separate criminals matters. 

The Honorable W. Timothy Finan, Administrative Judge of the Allegany Circuit Court sentenced Crawford on one count of robbery to ten (10) years in the Maryland Division of Corrections, suspending five (5) years of the sentence. This relates to a May 30, 2018 incident on Emily Street in Cumberland where Crawford produced a handgun and robbed another juvenile.

Crawford was also sentenced on one count of first degree assault to fifteen (15) years in the Maryland Division of Corrections, five (5) years of which was suspended.  This relates to a December 3, 2018 shooting on Arch Street in Cumberland.  No one was injured during the incident.  The sentences will be run consecutively for an overall sentence of twenty-five (25) years suspending all but fifteen (15) years.  Crawford was seventeen years old at the time of both offenses, but was charged as an adult given the serious nature of the offenses.

Both matters were investigated by the Cumberland City Police Department and the C3I Unit.  The Cumberland City CERT team assisted in the apprehension of Mr. Crawford in both May and December. 

The cases were prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Erich Bean.  Mr. Crawford was represented by Kimberly Fitzwater, Esq.
