Plans to run water for fire suppression and fiber for broadband as part of the mall project were discussed during Thursday’s meeting of the Downtown Development Commission.
City Engineer Bobby Smith said plans are nearly complete to bring those services to the front of Baltimore Street properties…
Later discussion focused on whether such utilities would be available to properties along streets that run close to the current mall, such as Centre Street.
DDC officials say they will reach out to property owners to inform them of specific details regarding the project.

Yes, I’m sure that those utility upgrades will be available to other properties. But here’s the catch. There will be a charge to the property owner for every foot of distance from the main system to their property. The cost will be prohibitive and no-one will ‘take advantage’ of the upgrades.

Shouldn’t they hire a consulting firm to look into this first?? Probably only cost a half million or so. But that can be added to the extra 9 million this ‘expansion’ will probably cost. Besides, it’s not like they need money to replace ancient (and breaking) water lines or fix streets, turn street lights back on, etc etc etc
