Del. Buckel & Commissioner Shade Express Frustration With Lack Of Progress On Bridges

October 7th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Meeting with state transportation leaders last week, Delegate Jason Buckel and Allegany County Commissioners President Jake Shade expressed frustration with lack of action in replacing and re-opening the three West Side bridges in Cumberland. All three bridges cross CSX rails and while the city has made progress in talks with CSX- it still could be two to three years before any permanent replacements on Fayette and Cumberland streets are complete.  Buckel said he believes if this situation had occurred in a larger, metropolitan area of the state it would have been addressed immediately…

Commissioner Shade pointed to the federal government as the main culprit for the lack of progress…

WHAT IS WRONG WITH HOLDING XXX ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE DAMAGE THEIR TRAINS DID TO CUMBERLAND’S BRIDGES? It’s high time that the people of Cumberland get the use of their bridges back. You can bet that If You or I had hit one of their bridges with our car they would have repaired in no time at all. What’s happening to our nation, state, and city today? Only hold the average citizens accountable. We’ll work with the rich and big business to negotiate and try to find a way to make the taxpayers pay for damages. CAN if you read this you should be very very ashamed of yourself. DEAD UP and do right by the people, or don’t look for a bailout the next time railroads need a helping hand to stay in business.
