Deputies Defuse Domestic Firearms Incident

November 28th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

On Saturday at approximately 2:00a.m, deputies with the Allegany County Sheriff's Office along with Troopers of the Maryland State Police responded to a Brice Hollow Rd, Oldtown, MD home for a reported armed subject. Officers were advised that a male subject later identified as Wayne Anthony Pankey (38, of Oldtown, MD) was armed with a handgun in the home threatening family members.  Upon the arrival of responding units, Pankey exited the home where he was challenged by Police. Pankey complied with the officers commands, and was taken into custody without further incident. The investigation in the matter revealed that Pankey who was intoxicated had reportedly pointed a loaded handgun at a family member in the home.  Two 9mm handguns were located in the residence.  A loaded Sig Sauer, 9mm was identified by the victim as being used during the incident.  Pankey was then placed under arrest and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center. Routine checks of the firearms revealed the Sig Sauer to have been reported stolen in a 2018 incident occurring in Frostburg, MD. The second handgun could not be checked due to the serial number being scratched away. An additional check of Pankey's background revealed him to be prohibited from the possession of firearms due to previous convictions. Pankey remains jailed pending an initial appearance before the District Court.
