Edwards says viable proposal for Washington Street bridge still needed

August 21st, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Part of the problem in replacing the Washington Street Bridge is due to the large number of government agencies involved. Working through federal regulations while attempting to  cobble together a funding package- while at the same time developing a workable plan and negotiating with CSX- has proven an insurmountable challenge thus far.  Located in the city’s historic district, the Washington Street bridge is one of three aging bridges on the city’s West Side that span CSX Transportation railroad lines. All three are either partially or completely closed due to their deteriorated conditions. State Senator George Edwards, at a rally organized by a citizens group this week, said all the delegation can do is attempt to secure state funding for the project- but even that request can’t be made until a more concrete proposal is on the table…

Let’s parse this out. Edwards will try to get funding for the bridge but there needs to be a workable plan in place, which there isn’t, so he is going to do nothing. That should prove easy for him as that’s what he’s been doing for years.

We can only count our blessings! While having Edwards isn’t great, having McKay in his seat would be disastrous for our area!

      > Certainly lots of criticism. If I had answers I would run for election. These people were hired(elected) to represent the constituents of this area. That is not happening or are you satisfied with what Buckel, Edwards and McKay are doing or not doing for us?

Lots of criticism but who has a viable solution? Railroad wants a higher bridge, I don’t see how that can happen at Washington Street.
