Gaithersburg Man Arrested on Drug Possession After Fleeing Traffic Stop

On October 26th, 2020, a deputy was conducting a criminal enforcement initiative in the area of Interstate 68, Lavale, MD when he conducted a traffic stop for a speed violation. During initial contact with the operator (Tony Maracelo Jobe, 21 of Gaithersburg, MD), the deputy was able to detect the strong odor of marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle.  As the deputy awaited the arrival of assisting deputies, the operator then began to accelerate away, nearly striking the officer.  

The vehicle was stopped in the parking lot of a Frostburg, MD business a short time later. The suspect was then taken into custody without further incident. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a large sum of U.S. currency, and a criminal amount of marijuana. Jobe was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center pending his initial appearance before the District Court. The Allegany County Sheriff's Office was assisted in the apprehension by, The Maryland State Police, Frostburg City Police, Frostburg University Police, and Allegany County Joint Communications Center.

Fleeing and Eluding

Failing to Stop for a stop sign

Reckless Driving

and numerous other traffic related charges.
