Gov. Hogan Asks Local Election Officials To Streamline Hiring Of Election Judges

August 26th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Gov. Larry Hogan on Wednesday urged local election officials to speed up the process of hiring and training election judges.

“As of today, based mainly on our administration’s aggressive recruiting efforts, more than 11,000 Marylanders have expressed interest in serving as election judges for the upcoming general election,” Hogan wrote in a letter to the Maryland Association of Election Officials. “However, there are increasing reports that local boards of election have failed to contact, or even turned away, interested election judges. This is unacceptable, and hurts our ability to safely conduct the November election.”

The state has encouraged around 65,000 employees to sign up as election judges, offering 16 hours of administrative leave for each day of service. Hogan said the state has worked with colleges and universities to encourage staff and students to volunteer.

“It is absolutely critical to ensure that the November election is conducted safely and effectively during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Hogan wrote. “You must stress to local boards the importance of responding to and training election judges immediately. There is no time to waste.”

Information on becoming on election judge is available from the Maryland State Board of Elections.

MARTIN, I would really suggest that you find a writing tutor. Your posts are word salad, incoherent ramblings, very angry, and make no sense. Numerous words are misspelled, many sentence fragments, and multiple punctuation mistakes. If you went to middle or high school you really must have slept through all of your language arts classes. Just trying to help you express yourself in a more cogent way.

Martin this virus crap that you mentioned has taken the lives of over 183,000 people in the USA. Their souls have left this earth far earlier then needed. Many went into a hospital and didn’t come out. The care givers died taking care of the patients with the virus crap. I am happy to see you must not have lost a family member. How about having more sympathy toward your fellow human being. This isn’t political.

Kathy, do you not believe that over 1000 people have been dying every day for the last month?

I have no reason not to believe that over a 1000 people a day die of COVID, what I don’t understand is why people don’t get upset about over 2400 people a day are killed by abortion, which is 100% avoidable. >

I bet it doesn’t go away. Immunologists and others in the scientific community say we will be dealing with covid for years.

Ron, it’s not going to go away until we have a coherent national plan. And even then it’s gonna be here for a while because millions of people think it’s some sort of hoax.

Jay, I agree we need a coherent national plan. According to what I’ve read it will take 2 years to vaccinate 75% of the population so that things can return to normal. However with the anti-vaccers and the hoax believers I doubt we can reach that number. This is why I believe we are in for a long haul. On another matter I’ve never met anyone who exists on a diet of far right radio commentary to be anything othet than hateful, miserable and downright mean. God save us!

Yes Ron. All you have to do is drive by Lashbaugh’s on a weekend night. You’ll see a pretty large crowd dancing and partying without masks or social distancing. Same thing across the street waiting in line at Livvy’s. Very few if any masks on. But many say it’s just the flu. It will go away. 6 million cases in the US, 180K deaths, 1000 Covid deaths a week and counting.
