Grim Believes Morriss Should Be Part of Caporale Replacement Process

Cumberland City Council member David Caporale  won election to the Allegany County Board of Commissioners in the November 6th  general election- and will be officially sworn into office on December 13th-  thus creating a vacancy on the city council.  The new city council will not be sworn in until January 7th.  In the past the city has filled vacancies by requesting letters or interest and interviewing the candidates. A new twist last time there was an opening was offering an invitation for those having applied to make their case by speaking at a city council meeting. While Mayor Brian Grim will occupy  the office through the first week in January, he tells WCBC News that mayor-elect Ray Morriss should be part of the selection process in naming the next council member….

The question is why should the outgoing mayor have any say at all? Surely a two week delay will not impede city business at all. Cioni’s appointment to Myers seat was longer than that, yet the city functioned. This is something that can wait, and should wait.
