Hogan Announces Executive Order Requiring Masks

April 16th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Governor Larry Hogan on Wednesday announced an executive order requiring Marylanders to wear face coverings in retail stores as well as on any form of public transportation in the state.  Additionally, the order requires that retail staff wear masks and that employers of retail stores incorporate social distancing measures to protect shoppers, including requiring spacing of customers in line and sanitizing or providing ways of sanitizing carts and baskets available to customers. The order is due to go into effect at 7 a.m. Saturday.  While the number of  COVID-19 cases and deaths are still moving upward, Hogan says there are some encouraging indicators, and soon the state can begin to take a serious look into reopening the economy…

I don’t know why but I get the feeling a few people here are not going to like this.

Virginia is already doing in compliance. I would rather follow the guidelines and be above ground then below or on a refrigerated truck. Stay safe.

Which guidelines? Just a couple of weeks ago the surgeon general was telling us that masks were unnecessary and could be dangerous! Anyone reasonably bright knew that was nonsense but that was not a big part of the population. Now the line is that masks don’t protect the wearer but just folks around them and one sees it repeated here!

      > Indeed Bob!! They constantly change the narrative. It is amazing that there aren’t many scientific studies on this topic, however there is at least one and it advises against the general public wearing masks. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4420971/

        > This change happened because they learned more about the virus and its ability to aerate. Back when the first thought was only the sick were to wear masks, the virus was thought to only be contagious through touching eyes, nose, mouth, etc. Since then, they have learned that it can hang in the air in droplets. Also, it has done some mutating. This is now a win-win for everyone. Wear a mask in stores/shops, etc.

        > The main driver for telling the public not to wear masks was that our medical professionals need to wear protective gear. At that time all of it was being bought up leaving them without adequate resources.

As far as a mask being useless, why don’t you try telling that to our doctors and nurses. I’m sure they would welcome a laugh about now.

Side note for those with allergies. Snugly fitting sunglasses could prevent pollen and dander from contacting the eye.

This from a guy who obviously knows more about this virus than people who have studied Epidemiology for their entire professional careers.

This is why we can’t have nice funerals.

      > Jim,

A while back, I asked myself how I would feel if I accidentally killed one or more people by infecting them with this virus.

Personally, I’m not sure I would want to live with that.

      How would you feel?

I’ll do anything to stop the spread. Since we haven’t been tested how do we really know if we aren’t part of the silent carriers? I’d rather err on the side of safety.

Ken, are you referring to the same doctors and nurses who are being infected at high rates in their workplace?

      > Why yes, they are.

Are you going to tell us that the masks aren’t working? Do you really believe that you’d be safer without wearing a mask?

You do know medical people are supposed to dispose of masks and protective clothing each time they visit an infected patient, right? Have you heard they don’t have enough protective gear to follow this practice?

I’m betting you’re a smart enough guy to figure out how that might be a problem.

Feel free to prove me wrong.
