Justice announces regulatory change for broadband expansion

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice announced an executive order Thursday to remove the regulatory cap amount of money that can come to the state from the FCC for expanded broadband.  Justice said the FCC created the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund to fund high speed broadband to rural areas and that he would like $766 million to come to the state, but the cap is currently $50 million with a limit of $10 million per entity.  Justice said if this plan comes to fruition, it will lead to unlimited economic opportunities for the state…

    After the government acquisition fees, regulatory fees, utility access fees, right of way fees, feasibility fees, environmental study fees, and the all important contribution to the Governor’s favorite charity (the Governor) there will be $50 million left over for broadband expansion.
