LaVale Man Charged with Threats of Mass Violence to FSU

June 25th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

On 06/25/2020 the Frostburg  State University Police Department was contacted by a concerned citizen who had received text messages from a subject who was threatening an attack on the FSU campus. The Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) was contacted to assist in the investigation.

Investigators learned that the subject is a former student who had been involved in  several  conflicts and confrontations with FSU faculty and staff. As a result, he had been ordered not to return to the campus.

Investigators further reviewed the texts, and in consultation with the Allegany County State's Attorney's Office, determined that there was enough contained in the texts to verify the validity of the threats. Investigators also learned that the suspect had firearms in his possession.

Investigators served a search warrant at the suspect's residence, located on National Highway in LaVale, with the assistance of the Cumberland Police CERT Team, the Maryland State Police, and the Allegany County Sheriff's Office. A rifle, a shotgun, and a significant amount of ammunition was recovered.

The suspect, identified as 34 year old Sean Kyle McIntyre, of LaVale, was taken into custody at that time, pending the service of an arrest warrant obtained by Investigators. McIntyre is being charged with Threats of Mass Violence.

The investigation is continuing by the FSU Police and C3I.
