Maryland county looking to place security officers in elementary schools

November 7th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Harford County announced plans Wednesday to put school resource officers in its elementary schools. WBAL reports three Harford County Sheriff's Office deputies will work in 27 elementary schools.

"The SROs will be charged with learning the physical layout of the schools. While we hope all of our deputies have a familiarity with all the facilities in their patrol sector, these deputies will obviously become more knowledgeable by being assigned to what amounts to nine schools each," Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler said.

The school resource program started about 20 years ago, but it's a first for elementary schools.

"They do become part of the school-based family in that they are their to listen, hear concerns, and really become workers in the school-based communities," Harford County Executive Barry Glassman said.

The expansion is funded by Harford County's $381,000 share of a $125 million grant to the state by the Maryland Center for School Safety.

"SROs in our elementary school is not only life-changing for our students, it's potentially life-saving," Harford County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Sean Bulson said.

The new SROs will start Nov. 16

SRO is a benign, euphemistic term for an armed guard.
Why stop at grade schools? Pre-schools and kindergartens should be our first line of defense. Once those toddlers come to the realization that they are under constant surveillance life will be a lot easier for everyone.

SRO’s would NOT BE NEEDED, if parents taught their children the right things, qualities, standards, and how to use and properly discharge a firearm. That way law enforcement would not need to police schools of any kind and our children could protect themselves from mad-sick-gun toting threats in life. MORAL: GOOD WINS & EVIL LOSES. (There would be no constant surveillance in our lives.

I think every parent should teach their children to use and discharge a fireman before entering the 1st grade. I also think the Constitution should be amended to permit all public school students to conceal-carry a firearm. This will immediately put a stop to the mad-sick gun toting threats in life. It was good enough for the citizens of Dodge City and Tombstone by God!

          > I’m sure that firemen are either city employees or volunteers. No children would have the authority to fire them.
Besides don’t kids like all firemen?
