MDOT SHA Slates Hancock Paving

October 29th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Beginning on November 4, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a project to resurface nearly two miles of MD 144 (E. Main Street) between Tollgate Ridge Road and Locher Road in Hancock. The project will be complete late-November.

The project includes pavement patching, milling (removal of the top layer of asphalt), resurfacing and installing pavement markings. MDOT SHA’s contractor, P&W Excavating, Inc. of McConnellsburg, PA., will use a portable messaging signs, flaggers, cones and barrels to guide motorists through the work zone. Curbside parking will be restricted during the work and notice will be posted in the affected areas. Parking will be permitted, at no cost, on the parking lots located between Canal Street and Main Street during the project.

Work will take place Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Approximately 2,700 vehicles travel on this section of MD144 per day. Motorists are encouraged to allow for additional commuting time and seek alternate parking.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our contractor. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on the road and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
