May 12th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Cumberland hopes to hit the ground running as Maryland emerges from “Stay at Home” orders, and Mayor Ray Morriss has named a task force to create a marketing strategy to capitalize. Morriss says the work group will reach out to businesses and others involved in downtown, and will promote it as a safe and successful business operation…

Isn’t this something that the CEDC/ADC should be doing? This is something that the Downtown Mall Manger should be doing? Instead of creating a new task force shouldn’t we use the tools we already have?

Lets just hope Mayor Morriss has more success reopening Cumberland than he did the Washington Street Bridge!

      > Obtuse seems to come with the job. Maybe when this idea doesn’t work, the county can take it over too and double bill the city – again! Let’s get stores re-opened on the mall – right before we start digging it up. Brilliant.

Kevin, do you really think the downtown project is even going to happen? I’m guessing it won’t even start for 18 months to 2 years if then. They were already millions short on the project and with the pandemic the money will not exactly be flowing. And how many of the existing downtown businesses will even survive when thng is over? Will the CC Mall even be able to re-open, other than WalMart?

I’m sure he will use this as another opportunity to line the pockets of his buddy Dave Williams. Watch more tax dollars get handed over to Dave…it’s all a payback for a successful “campaign.”

People wonder why the region keeps struggling with the same topics we’ve been dealing with since the 1990s, well we keep using McClarran & Williams Inc to promote our community. Those two fat cats act as gatekeepers to the area and the only projects they get a check from gets approval.
