New School Board Faces Criticism For Perceived Lack Of Transparency

For the second consecutive public meeting, the new Allegany County Board of Education faced sharp criticism from the public for a perceived lack of transparency. During a public session held late Friday afternoon Carmen Jackson, a onetime school board candidate, blasted the board- specifically members Robert Farrell, David Bohn and Wayne Foote- for what she says is working outside of public view to advance a specific agenda. She said the appearance is that Farrell, Bohn and Foote are functioning as a three member board- making little or no effort to include or seek input from members Tammy Fraley and Deb Frank.  She referenced the closed door decision made earlier this month to replace longtime board attorney Gary Hanna with the firm of Geppert, McMullen, Paye and Getty; as well as last minute business items being added or deleted from the public meeting agenda- days after it had already made available to the public…

    no meetings should be hidden from the public,after all the taxpayers are footing the bill for everything they accomplish or fail at,,it still involves the taxpayers money,closed meetings just mean they want to do something they don’t want you to know about until it to late,where;s the fairness and honesty we voted for?

      > If you voted for the three amigos you did not vote for fairness or honesty. Each of the three has a personal agenda that has little if anything to do with improving education. This board is about settling scores – nothing more.
