Leadership Changes; Fraley Out as School Board President

January 12th, 2021 by WCBC Radio

The newly constituted Allegany County Board of Education began the new year with a pair of split 3-2 votes on the election of officers. The board, conducting its first meeting of 2021, elected its newest member- Crystal Bender as board president. Bender was nominated for the position by board member David Bohn who noted that she was the top vote getter in the November election and added that she would be impartial. Member Deb Frank nominated Tammy Fraley to continue to serve as president- pointing to her experience and knowledge of the education system. Bender was elected by a 3-2 vote with Bohn, Robert Farrell and herself voting in the affirmative. Frank and Fraley opposed, voting instead for Fraley. Following Bender’s election Frank called the action “sneaky and underhanded”. Frank then nominated Fraley to serve as vice-president, but that also failed, with Farrell being elected to that post by a 3-2 vote. The vote breakdown remained the same for both elections.
