New Year, Additional Challenges for DDC

Starting the year with no downtown manager in place, and a major renovation  projects just months away- 2020 could prove a major challenge for Sandi Saville- chair of the Downtown Development Commission.  The mall manager resigned at the end of December and while a search committee has been formed it expected that a replacement won’t be on board until March at the earliest. Meanwhile plans continue for the upcoming $9.4 million redesign of the pedestrian mall. Those renovations will include underground replacement of utility lines and the re-opening of the street for vehicular traffic and parking. Some downtown business owners have concerns with how they will be impacted during construction- which could take a year and a half…

    I agree with some of the business owners who have spoken out about the remodel.
    There is no plan in place beyond the repairs and beautification. No plans to attract new business and some businesses such as the outdoor dining restaurants may lose out when the roadway is put back in.
    The business owners appear to be as in the dark as everyone else and that shouldn’t be.

      Very irritating to know that someone is being paid to present something for public consumption and not even proof read what they have written.
      I suppose it’s a case of; I don’t care if it’s done right as long as it’s done by Wednesday.
