O’Malley considers run to lead Democratic Party

November 11th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

Former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley became the latest Democrat to throw his name in as a possible candidate to lead the national party, which is searching for answers to explain Tuesday's stunning upset in the presidential election.

O'Malley's statement came hours after liberal leaders such as Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren appeared to be coalescing behind Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota for the job. New York Sen. Chuck Schumer and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders have also expressed support for Ellison.

O'Malley, who heavily criticized the Democratic National Committee's leadership during his own unsuccessful run for the White House this year, said in a statement Friday that, despite those developments, he had been approached by many Democrats.
