Power Structure At Board Of Education Expected To Shift Dramatically

December 3rd, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Between another weekend of football and travel back from Thanksgiving visits it would be understandable if the Ed Root/school board news escaped your attention.  But its importance shouldn't be understated. With Root appointed by the governor to fill the seat on the Allegany County Board of Education previously held by Wayne Foote- the dynamic and power structure of the board is expected to shift dramatically. For the first 10 months of the new school board there were any number of divisive issues ranging from the election of board officers; the appointment of an interim superintendent; the hire of a new board attorney and the question of who is responsible for selecting the chief of security. With board members Foote, Robert Farrell and David Bohn having campaigned as a slate and like minded on most issues- most of those substantive matters saw the majority block prevail over the wishes of board members Tammy Fraley and Deb Frank. That is expected to change with Root’s appointment.  In his first interview after getting the appointment, Root acknowledged that he had concerns with the manner in which the board has been conducting business…

Former board member Wayne Foote told WCBC News that he was adamantly opposed to the idea of Root getting the appointment- and while neither Farrell nor Bohn have commented- both are known to have been supportive of other applicants to fill the vacancy.  Among the changes that could take place as early as next month could be a new election of officers; a change in legal counsel and a move to advertise nationally and begin a search for a permanent superintendent.  While no date has been set, it is expected that Root will be sworn in prior to the next board meeting which is set for Tuesday, December 10th.

At what point does Wayne’s opinion stop being something we would care about? He was removed in disgrace after a long process and offered no defense for his actions other that ‘so what?’

The amigos running as a block tried to disenfranchise the voters who voted for the other board members. A board has to work together. That is how it should be.

The next time Mr. Foote denies any of the charges that justifiably led to his removal will be the first time.

Farrell is on the air saying everything is going swell with the system now that they have taken over and that everyone is happy and no ones been hurt since ‘the amigos’ took charge. Did we just have a KINDERGARDNER teach arrested for touching children? That’s on ‘the amigos’ watch.
