Ridgeley Woman Charged with Theft of $1.5 Million

January 6th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

A Mineral County woman has been charged with the theft of about $1.5 million from a Deep Creek Lake business.

39 year old Mindy Renae Moorehead, of Ridgeley, is alleged to have taken the money over a ten year period from St. Moritz Marine Service, Incorporated, which does business as Bill’s Marine Service.

Garrett County State’s Attorney Lisa Thayer Welch tells WCBC News the financial discrepancy was discovered during an internal corporate review.  Moorehead had been serving as the comptroller of the corporation.

Welch tells us that although there are three separate charges, it is one continuing course of conduct that allegedly began in 2010.  The reason for the three different charges is due to changes in the Maryland theft statute over the last decade.

Moorehead turned herself in on January 2, and was released on a $25,000 unsecured bond late Monday morning.

Well it’s an unsecured bond which means no money needed to be posted. An unsecured bond means that the defendant only need worry about paying in the event that they fail to appear for their hearing. So there was no money to be paid.

Let’s see – 1.5 mil over 10 years is about 150K per year. And it took them 10 years to catch her or notice something was amiss? Is she related to Frank Abagnale?

Someone should have questioned why she was keen to commute a couple hours a day.

It’s really funny not the first time she stole money. Need to question about her job prior to Bills Marine…

She learned from the best, her MOTHER. Hmmm, let’s see her mom stole from Waynes meat market (money) walmart (money) and from her own mother. So the apple truly doesn’t fall far from the tree.
