Scenic Railroad HQ moved Ridgeley

June 25th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad has moved out of the Railway Station in Cumberland- relocating  operations to Ridgeley.  The tourist train has been shut down this season due to the restrictions in place as a result of the Coronavirus- and that has led to an estimated $650,000 loss in revenue according to General Manager John Garner. The Canal Place Preservation Development Authority- which rents space to the railroad- was notified that the scenic railroad would be vacating effective June 30th.  A letter to the authority stated that the move is permanent- but Garner suggests that when,  or if,  there is a return to normal conditions- that decision could be revisited…

Canal Place Authority executive director Dee Dee Ritchie said losing the scenic railroad would be a major hit for the local economy…

Does Garner still plan to run the train up to Frostburg? Does he have some type of right of way to pass through Cumberland and the station? Will they stop at the station to pick up passengers? A lot of questions without answers.

      > Seems nothing running this year, and for Ms. Ritchie to call it a ‘major hit’ to the local economy is a laugh. A pathetic laugh at that.

Great… Now we can bail out the WMSR, and then bail out Canal Place to make up for the lost rent from WMSR.

If these clowns were running a pizza joint, they would have gone belly up in six months. But since they’re government-funded, the taxpayers get to pay for their mismanagement until the end of time, apparently.
