Senior citizen bank robbery suspect arrested in Montgomery County

August 7th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

A  suspect arrested this week after a bank robbery in Potomac has confessed to five other bank robberies in the area, according to Montgomery County authorities.

The robberies date back to 2012. Police said James Wersick, 71, held up the PNC Bank in Potomac on Tuesday morning. An officer responding to the bank robbery stopped Wersick outside the bank. Wersick told the officer he was a customer. That's when, according to police, a gun fell out of the suspect's pants. Police then found a bag of cash and three knives concealed in Wersick's clothing.

Police said Wersick had used the gun to rob a teller, whom he called by name, and told her he knew where she lived. She handed over the cash before Wersick left the bank and was arrested.

How sad. It is sort of like the movie Going in Style but, under the new tyranny, he had to be all alone.
