State Creates New Email for Unemployment Claims

Labor officials report over 61,000 Maryland residents filed unemployment insurance claims last week, a sharp decrease from the previous week. In the week ending in April 11,  61,770 filed claims with the Maryland Department of Labor Division of Unemployment Insurance. The previous week, 108,508 Marylanders and overall 6,606,000 Americans filed claims. Locally Allegany County saw 700 people file claims last week, and 260 doing so in Garrett County. Not all of those claims have been accepted- and as a result the Maryland Department of Labor has created a new, dedicated email address for disputed unemployment claims.  For those having issues getting through to apply, State Labor Secretary Tiffany Robinson told WBAL that people should email ui.disqualifiedclaims@maryland.gov. Robinson said the new email address isn’t the only thing her department is doing to keep up with the surge in new unemployment claims and questions about the process…
