Storms Bring Major Flooding To Metro Area

July 31st, 2016 by WCBC Radio

The National Weather Service in Sterling. Virginia, exceeded the normal alert of Flash Flood Warning last night, issuing a Flash Flood Emergency in Howard and Southwestern Baltimore Counties after Severe Thunderstorms dumped several inches of rain on that area in particular.

Then, the areas of Columbia and Ellicott City were put under a similar emergency weather alert, as the Little Patuxent and Patapsco Rivers were observed with rapid level rises.

Several roads were shut down, and residents were advised to seek higher ground and avoid the area due to what the NWS called an extremely dangerous situation. Obviously, there will be a damage assessment done throughout the day.
