Temporary One Lane Bridge To Be In Place On City’s West Side By End Of Year

October 2nd, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Some encouraging news for residents of the city’s West Side announced during Tuesday’s meeting of the Cumberland Mayor and City Council- with Mayor Ray Morriss projecting a temporary one lane bridge in place by the end of the year.  All three bridges over the CSX tracks have been closed for over a year while engineering evaluations and negotiations take place.  Morriss said the most recent talks with CSX representatives took place Friday and an agreement was reached that will see the one lane bridge, open to both directions of traffic on Fayette Street completed in about three months…

That one way bridge will be temporary as plans for a permanent Fayette Street structure remain with a projected completion date late in 2022.  A 2022 completion date for a new permanent Cumberland Street bridge is also on track…

The news is far less certain when it comes to the Washington Street Bridge with no firm plans or proposals yet agreed upon…

Cool. Looks like we might have all 3 bridges open by 2025. In the meantime, CSX continues to cut jobs in Cumberland while racking up billions in profits.

Will it be a toll bridge with all the proceeds going to CSX?? I doubt our city ‘leaders’ would settle for any thing less!!
