The rift between President Donald Trump and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over construction of a border wall appears to be widening as negotiators work to strike a deal ahead of a mid-month deadline. Over the course of a week, both sides hardened their positions. Pelosi, who had previously been reluctant to entirely rule out wall money in a final funding agreement, made her strongest comments against the wall since the government reopened last week. While Trump stands firm in insisting that significant funding for a wall be part of any compromise.
