The Cumberland Times News reports two inmates were stabbed late Wednesday during a fight involving five inmates at the Western Maryland Correctional Institution. One inmate was hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries and another treated and released at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center following the 10:40 p.m. incident, according to a spokeswoman for the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. Two Cresaptown Volunteer Fire Department ambulances transported the injured inmates. A third injured inmate received treatment from medical personnel at the maximum-security prison located on U.S. Route 220 at Cresaptown. The incident occurred during recreation in a housing unit. Weapons were seized by correctional officers and the incident remains under investigation. Medical personnel from the Allegany County Department of Emergency Services Division also responded to the scene.
