UPDATE: Power Outage Update

3:15 PM UPDATE

Potomac Edison crews are continuing their efforts to restore power to affected customers in Allegany and Garrett Counties, although with smaller numbers of outatges in nearby West Virginia.

In Allegany County, over 2600 are without electric, while in Garrett County 6500 are without power.  Some areas with percentage of homes without electric:

Frostburg 25%

Flintstone 38%

Lonaconing 30%

Barton 15%

Bittinger 99%

Deer Park 35%

Oakland 32%

Grantsville 22%

McHenry 21%

Accident 20%

Some may not have power until Thursday afternoon, according to projections on the PE website.

EARLIER REPORT

Power outages along the Rt-36/George’s Creek Corridor have increased in the wake of yesterday’s winter weather, according to emergency services officials. A warming center is currently opened at the Midland Volunteer Fire Department. “The warning center located at the Midland Fire Department is opened currently and will remain open until noon tomorrow to serve the needs of citizens affected by the recent power outages in the George’s Creek area,” Emergency Services Deputy Director Roger Bennett said. 

Currently, there are approximately 1500 citizens, mainly located in western Allegany County along Rt-36 and adjoining communities without power, Bennett said. 

The center is located on 14823 Broadway Avenue in Midland.
