Waivers granted for Allegany County Schools; June 9th final day

May 8th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland State Department of Education has approved the Allegany County Public School System’s request to have three days waived from the 180-day school year requirement due to the excessive number of school closings due to inclement weather.   As a result of MSDE’s approval, the last day of school for ACPS students will be Tuesday, June 9, 2015.  The last day of school for teachers will be Tuesday, June 16, 2015. Allegany County Public Schools were closed a total of eleven days this school year.  Earlier this year, the local school board voted to modify the current school calendar to reclaim the Thursday before Easter, April 2nd, and the Monday after Easter, April 6th, as instructional days for students.  ACPS also used five inclement weather days that were originally built into the school calendar. The State Board granted this waiver request because of the modifications made to this year’s school calendar.
