247WallSt Website: Allegany County Has Maryland’s Worst COVID-19 Spread

August 23rd, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The 247 Wall Street website has done research on which counties are the "hot spots" for the spread of COVID-19, and in the week ending August 17, Allegany County has the highest daily number of new cases per 100,000.
See the article here.

The numbers have improved this week, but there is still concern about community and congregate spread.

The latest reports from the Allegany County Health department show double digit new cases when reports are issued Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

CORRECTION:  An earlier version of this story ideentified the Wall Street Journal as the source.  We regret the error.

What do you expect when the county is full of Trumpers who won’t wear a mask or worst wear something that looks like a mask but is worst than nothing (neck gaiters and other sheer materials that actually cause droplets to be aerosolized according to duke university study)

Many people in this area still say things like “it’s just the flu, or it’s not as bad as they say it is”. They refuse to believe that 1000 people are dying from Covid in this country every day.

Oddly, you two have misused the same base word. Are you one person or just products of the same sort of schools? 1 should have used “worst” and 2 should have used “worse”.

      > Just out of curiosity I tried several online grammar checkers. Both words are acceptable in the sentence I wrote. The only error in each attempt was the word “Trumpers”. Guess the grammar checkers know there is something wrong with Trumpers.

Search instead for mask but is worst than nothing

I suspect that you are content with being militantly wrong so carry on.

27 deaths divided by 372 total infections, which does not include the many who were infected but never tested…your survival odds are amazing even in the “hot spot”. lol

      > Its the 3rd leading cause of death currently. Im not sure how that is amazing survival. 176,000 deaths. That is 58 times more than the annual flu deaths and we are just at the 6 month mark (presuming feb/march).

Not to mention we are doing worst then just about all other countries.

The virus does not care if your a democrat, republican or ?. Put on the correct mask type!!!

        > Hey Fedup, you throw out these numbers and expect us too cower in fear, but the fact is that most of the deaths have been elderly people. Also, any covidiot who wants a vaccine think about this, the flu vaccine has been around for decades and people still die from it.

People comment to say how ignorant other folks are. When I read these nasty comments, they seem just as ridiculous as the posts of the uninformed. I’m seeing two acceptable variations of the definition of stupid. The posts on this page are an embarrassing reflection of our community.

At this point in time an argument over spelling and grammar is a ridiculous waste of time.
Too many local citizens continue to treat this as a joke. No masks, not wearing a mask correctly and arguing when someone contradicts them.
Being a red state it’s not surprising but it is still extremely disappointing. Our fearless leader Trump is to blame as well as everyone who parrot his continuing string of lies and misinformation.
I’ve managed to stay healthy by staying at home you should try it.

Red state? Is that suppose to be a joke? Maryland is far from being red. They’re as blue can get. And how is it Trump’s fault. How can you blame one person for this? He stopped the inbound flights from China while Piglosi (a Maryland native) was encouraging everyone to come down to Chinatown!

When he shut off the China flights there were still many thousands of people coming into the country from China. Not to mention Europe which is where the NYC problem originally came from.

      > The president stopped foreigners from coming into the country from China but over 40,000 Americans were allowed to return from China during that period.

I fully support that decision the president made but would have liked to have seen testing and/or quarantining of these people which didn’t happen.

One issue that should be included is while survival rates are encouraging, catching this disease and getting sick from it is miserable. Many people are what’s called long termers and they remain ill for several months.

Let’s be smart. Take a conservative, safe approach. Wear a mask, wash your hands, and stay away from crowded indoor places as much as possible.

To everyone who doesn’t want to wear a mask in public, or who doesn’t want to wear a mask correctly, here’s what you should do: if you get sick from COVID, then don’t bother going to the hospital. Since you didn’t wear a mask, you thought you were invincible or you don’t care about you own life. So why waste the hospital’s resources on someone like you, who’s too selfish to think of anyone but yourself? By not wearing a mask, you put other people in harms way (such as the elderly or people with pre-existing conditions). Also, to those people who think things won’t ever get bad in Allegany County, just look up what happened during the 1918 Spanish Flu in Cumberland. Read about how the number of deaths was so high, that they had to bury the dead in mass graves along the C&O Canal. But since some people don’t care about history, then they don’t care if they doom themselves to repeat it. Oh and in case anyone’s wondering, I’m a Moderate Democrat, NOT a Progressive Liberal SJW snowflake.

After one day of misinforming the public, AGAIN, concerning the origin of information on Covid-19, WCBC has corrected itself.
This is ridiculous. Why should anyone put any trust in anything seen on this website? For that matter why believe anything on the radio station?
It’s too easy to just post words and hope that they jibe with the truth.
Misspellings and poor grammar are bad enough but to confuse The Wall Street Journal with Wall St. 24/7 is just stupid.

Since this was from a fake news web site, then take the article off! It is misleading. Stick to reputable websites, like the governor’s news updates. And the name-calling on here makes the area look bad!
