With Mill Closed, Future Uncertain

June 2nd, 2019 by WCBC Radio

The Luke Mill is now closed, with final shifts at the facility concluding on Friday after the final rolls of paper were produced Thursday. Workers are to be paid through the end of June, and the future of the mill is very much up in the air. State officials say they have forwarded a dozen or more inquiries to Verso, but there is no word on what might happen.

With the mill officially shut down, the 675 employees are eligible to file for unemployment benefits starting Monday. Maryland Labor Secretary Jim Rzepkowski says its just one of a number of initiatives the state is bringing to bear in order to help those who are unemployed as a result of the decision to close the Verso facility.

One of the major issues tied the to closing of the Verso Mill is the future of water and sewage treatment for the town of Luke. District 1A Delegate Wendell Beitzel has also been a member of the Upper Potomac River Commission and says there is no way to continue to operate as is without the contracted usage associated with the paper mill.

Where is the great trump MAGA scam. Oh right he only visits Iowa to make promises to a state that ruined America. Maybe Trump should of made sure that states like Maryland didn’t institute scam wages and scam energy policies
