March 26th, 2021 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County Health Department reports that 15,555 Allegany County residents have received their first dose of a two-dose vaccine against COVID-19 (22.1% of the population), with 9,478 of those individuals now fully vaccinated with their second dose (13.5% of the population).  Additionally, 562 Allegany County residents have received the single dose Janssen vaccine (0.8%).

By comparison, the state reported that 25.9% of all Marylanders had received their first dose of a two-dose vaccine, with 13.1% having had both doses and an additional 1.0% vaccinated with the single dose vaccine.

Per the Governor’s timeline, Maryland’s vaccination Phase 2B will open Tuesday, March 30.  That vaccination group includes individuals age 16 and older with specific medical conditions which make them more vulnerable to severe illness from COVID-19.  Appointments are already being scheduled for next week.

To be added to our contact list for vaccine appointments, fill out the Vaccine Interest Form at health.maryland.gov/allegany.  Please keep in mind that it may take some time before we get to you on the list, but you will be contacted via phone or email by the health department or UPMC Western Maryland when it is your turn for the vaccine.
