The reconciliation bill passed by Congress leaves funding holes affecting residents in Garrett and Allegany counties. Data from Congresswoman April McClain-Delaney’s office shows that in Allegany County, one in five households receive SNAP funds and two-thirds of students receive free or reduced lunches. Delaney tells WCBC she is already working with groups to find solutions…
“Figuring out how we can cross-leverage as strategically as possible the filling gaps where these funding holes are going to come and how can we work across communities to kind of really stem some of the hurt.”
She said she will also be at work at the federal level…
“I’m really going to be pushing hard to kind of claw back some of those funds and to really advocate very strongly in the appropriations process not only for community project funding grants but also the impact of these cuts in the long term.”
