The Corporation for Public Broadcasting announced this week that it has formally voted to end operations. Over $1 billion dollars in federal funding was rescinded by the Trump Administration last summer, ending 58 years of public media support including educational programming, news, and local story telling. According to Mary Louise Kelly, the host of National Public Radio’s All Things Considered, NPR programs and affiliates are unaffected for now…
“It does not further affect local stations across the U.S., but that's only because they were already facing a future without federal funding. Federal defunding spurred rounds of philanthropic aid. It spurred listener donations, but all of us still share a lot of unanswered questions about the long-term financial future of public media.”
