The Executive Director with the Allegany County Animal Shelter along with its manager, three board members and the veterinarian on record have resigned following questions of donations and accounting at the shelter. Jodi Eirich on Tuesday tendered her resignation and will remain Executive Director of the organization until October 25th the County’s agreement with the shelter’s management foundation, a Maryland nonprofit and Tax-exempt Corporation is in default of the agreement for reasons that include failure to provide sufficient staff or services for more than 90 days. During WCBC's Dave Norman program County Administrator Jason Bennett spoke about the concern the county has with the current situation…
"It's got us very concerned to be very honest. This is a really important function for our county and you know it's one we are tasked by law to do. So, you know we trusted in them because we have a contract with them to carry out services but, it certainly appears that they're major problems there so we're very concerned."
Mr. Bennett added that the animals are being cared for at the shelter but after October 25th things remain uncertain…
"In the interim there are still folks caring for the animals. If we reach, I think they told us the 25th. If we reach the 25th and there's kind of no resolution and they lock the doors obviously we have an issue. I think there's about 450 animals out there right now."
