Allegany County Attorney Lee Beeman informed the commissioners during Thursday’s meeting that the Animal Shelter has been out of compliance in their contract on several levels for some time.  Financial statements have not been provided since 2022, an audit report was not provided in July, and the County has been excluded in personnel changes.  Commissioner Bill Atkinson said it is not a financial problem but a board problem…

“We will be looking into this further, we will be having more meetings and discussions with the board—the current board—and trying to get to the bottom all of this and see if we can’t get this moving forward in a much better way than it is right now.”
