The Allegany County Commissioners adopted their fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night. The $141.7 million dollar budget is up $3.7 million from last year due to additional costs from the state. Though property taxes remain the same, 10 full-time employees were cut, and water and sewer rates will increase. Income tax rates will also increase, explains Commission President Dave Caporale…
“We will have an increase of $0.17 for income tax in order to qualify for over $5.7 million in additional state funding disparity grant. This adjustment helps us secure financial stability without raising other taxes and fees in general fund.”

“We also extend our sincere thanks to our partner agencies for maintaining services with no funding increases. These choices have not been easy, but they will protect residents from added tax burdens during this time of inflation.”
