The Cumberland Mayor and City Council formally adopted the budget for Fiscal Year 2026 at Tuesday’s meeting. The total budget is a little over $82.5 million which includes general fund, special purpose funds, water and trash. Increased water rates will be voted on during the next meeting, but the increased trash rates were accepted last night. Residential customers’ monthly trash fee will be $28.55 a month. Commercial and industrial customers’ monthly fee will be as little as $54.30 for 1-8 bags per pickup, 9-16 bags will be $108.63, and 17 or more will cost $162.91. Mayor Ray Morriss told the public though the new rate is a 73% increase, the City of Cumberland will hold the second from the lowest trash rate in the County…
“The only location that has a lower trash rate than the City of Cumberland is the City of Frostburg. What we have is a very competitive trash rate compared to the region.”
