Clearway Energy’s wind turbines atop Dans Mountain are now online. Nine turbines placed along the mountaintop will generate enough energy to power 24,000 homes.  Constellation Energy is purchasing the power. For Allegany County, it means a bump in property tax collection according to County Administrator Jason Bennett…

    

“Them being operational means we start collecting on our pilot agreement we did with them which means they’re paying us roughly $825,000 a year in property tax. And they had communicated that to us that they were operational now so that’s really what that means to the county. It means the project is largely complete at this point.”

Bennett also told WCBC that the 55-megawatt wind project had little problem during its construction phase…

   

“It’s honestly been relatively quiet. Some issues with the roadway and stuff through their work up there, which they’re still working on finalizing. But no, all in all, the project once it finally got going is gone pretty well.”
