Disturbance on Springdale Street results in Arrest

On Monday, March 20th, 2023, The Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 200 block of Springdale St for the report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim to the alleged incident. The victim advised officers that they had spoken to a neighbor about loud music and asked them to turn it down. The victim later observed the neighbor throwing garbage into the yard. When the victim went into the yard to clean the garbage, the neighbor exited his residence and threatened the victim with a handgun. Police then contacted the suspect, Mario Alexander Caperna, 63, and detained him. It was learned that Caperna had threatened the victim with a weapon, being upset over the earlier contact about his loud music. The weapon, a lifelike CO2 pistol, was located inside the home and seized. Caperna was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held without bond.
