The 17 million dollar Baltimore Street redesign project might be completed but construction work continues in downtown Cumberland. 9 building projects are under way from remodeling to a complete thread floor addition with 4 additional projects in the planning phase for next year. Under renovation now on Baltimore Street is the former Harvey's Jewelry with the tenant waiting to move into the commercial space once completed. Arcadian Galley renovations are nearing completion with an opening planned for later this month. Asbestos removal is underway in the former CVS building. The Rosenbaum, a $5 million dollar development anticipates opening 9 apartment units this summer. An additional 12 Air BnB uniits are set for completion in late 2025. Wills Mountain hotel project has begun its third floor addition on the rear of the building and just recently received trusses for the roof.
During the month of May portions of Merchants Alley will be closed to allow for scaffolding to be set up to complete masonry work. The Merchants Alley parking lot is also planned to be closed to the public on Friday, May 9th between 7a.m. till noon to allow for a crane to be placed in the parking lot for the installation of an HVAC unit on an additional building.
Demolition work continues on a North Liberty Street property with upper floor residential and lower commercial space. Downtown Development Commission is now seeking business proposals for the commercial space to be paired up with economic business grants. The city of Cumberland as well as subcontractor’s also continuing work on the surrounding downtown with water valve replacements and underground utilities. Baltimore Street has certainly paved the path for economic growth and revitalization in downtown.
