Former LaVale man indicted on assault charges

The Allegany County State’s Attorney’s Office, Michael O. Twigg, State’s Attorney, announced the Grand Jury indictment of Kenneth Earl Wright, 41, formerly of LaVale, Maryland.  The charges stem from an incident on September 19th 2017 where members of the Allegany County Sheriff’s Department responded to a #911 call to the Rodeway Inn in LaVale, Maryland.  The #911 caller advised that Wright was attacking his estranged wife at the motel.  When Deputies arrived Wright began attacking the officers with a long pipe at which time he was shot by one of the deputies.  Wright and the deputy involved in the shooting were then transported to the Western Maryland Regional Hospital for treatment of their injuries.  Wright’s estranged wife was also treated at the scene for injuries she sustained from Mr. Wright.

 

The Grand Jury issued an indictment charging Wright with 3 counts of First Degree Assault and Second Degree Assault against this estranged wife and the two deputies involved in the incident.  Additionally, no fault was found in the use of a firearm in the incident by the deputy involved in the shooting.
