Frederick Mayor Michael O’Connor has drawn the attention of Maryland’s House Minority Whip over a legal advocacy fund set up to help illegal immigrants. The fund of $20,000 was included in the city’s 2026 budget. Grants would go to non-profits to assist immigrants facing deportation. Delegate Justin Ready tells WBAL the money should not be put up by the city and that tracking the spending on grants will be tricky…
“It really evades a lot of accountability because it’s a block grant from the taxpayers to an NGO, a nonprofit. If I’m the city of Frederick I would be like you can use this 20-grand but we need to know it’s not going to like help an MS-13 guy fight extradition.”
